“Codence = business intelligence and data integrity for growth. FileMaker software developer Codence (formerly New Millennium) came to 9thWonder looking for a new name, brand identity and responsive website to show how they craft both reliable software and tailored custom solutions that marry deep accounting roots with FileMaker expertise.” Their goal for this site was to be optimized for search that would drive traffic and conversions.

Challenge


As lead designer, I took charge of the overall project. I juggled a variety of roles including a brand and website redesign. A challenge for me was to incorporate their product as well as their services into one seamless site. They wanted their clients to better understand what they have to offer as well as a website that pushed the boundaries of their competitors websites. My roles included: responsive web design, logo design, illustrative elements, UI/UX interactions, and collateral.

Messaging Guide

After initial kick off with client, I was tasked to create a logo and messaging guide. The goal of this initial process was to ensure the Codence brand was carefully crafted to accurately represent their business and to resonate with their intended customer base. Setting a design system in place right away helps my process.

Next, brand colors, fonts and a design system were set into place using Sketch. I was tasked to create a homepage. Once approved, the interior, responsive and interactive guidelines were created. We presented designs to client using Invision where they could add notes for changes and feedback on the design.

Once all responsive designs were approved, we handed them over to the development team using Zeplin and Invision. I send over breakpoints as well as our styles sheet from Invision to help with assets for fonts, colors, iconography, images etc. I animated interactions using After Effects and Timeline by Anima, a plugin for Sketch.

After handing over final designs via a blueprint, we got client feed back and went into development. The development team gave us a midpoint QA where we checked breakpoints, fonts, colors and overall structure of the website. After midpoint QA was final QA where I had two weeks to go through entire website and use the marker tool for QA.

Below are the initial interior page designs which were created in Sketch. Once these were created, I used the craft plugin with Invision and created a prototype so clients could click through and see how hover states, drop-down navigation, and pages link.

The new brand identity and website launched in February of 2019. 

The CEO, Scott Love, reported “I’m so proud to give someone my business card and know they are going to visit a great website. You took us from atrocious to best in class.
